the balvenie doublewood – aged 12 years

Darker?

The last two bottles of double wood have been much darker than before. Much like the Caribbean cask color. I love The Balvenie 12 yo Double Wood over any other Balvenie bottling. But now a bit disappointing. Am I just getting older and eyesight and taste buds changing?

Whiskey without the burn

I have drank a lot of American and Scotch whiskies and always lean towards a single malt Scotch. I was recently given a bottle of the Balvenie Double Wood 12 as a gift. With my first pour I expected to smell vanilla based on other reviews but I got nut. The taste revealed a comforting sweetness of spice and honey with a little bit of chewiness on the palate but surprisingly none of the typical "burn". This is an excellent scotch whiskey and will be a staple in my liquor closet. If you're unfamiliar with Scotch whiskies and looking for a gift for a friend you absolutely can't go wrong with this!
