The khakis of single malts
The Glenlivet 14 Year Old is like the khaki pants of single malts - reliable, familiar, and gets the job done. Is it exciting? Not exactly. But for a chill night sipping on the couch, it's a solid choice. Taste/Smell: Honey, apples, and a hint of vanilla hit you first, with a touch of orange peel and maybe some cinnamon for a little somethin' somethin'. Sipping: Smooth and easy, like a stream on a calm day. The sweetness from the nose carries over, with honey and apples leading the charge. There's a little peppery spice on the tongue, but it's more of a suggestion than a punch in the face. The finish isn't super long, but it leaves a pleasant oaky aftertaste. Overall: This is great for a beginner. Easy to drink, and it's got a nice honeyed sweetness.
