Old Fan disappointed with latest batches
I have been a fan of the Doublewood for at least 15 years and I have been able to rely on the consistent taste of the American oak and my beloved sherry oak profile. I am not a fan of the peat, although I've been know to imbibe a peated scotch from time to time. Normally I would easily have given the Doublewood five stars as it has stood out as my favorite single malt scotch over the years. Unfortunately the last three bottles have had a non-trivial amount of peated flavor which ruins the flavor profile for me. I don't know why this unwanted profile has been introduced but I suspect it has something to do with the increased popularity of my beloved elixir requiring an increased production; yet quantity does not translate into quality. I have experienced the same loss of consistency with other beloved bottles which have driven me away (i.e. The Macallan 12). After this 3rd bottle I will wait a year or two in hopes that I can have a dram of the Doublewood I have become accustomed to. I am hopeful that you can rectify this change in my go to bottle. I will now have to troll around to bottles of Abelour Double cask (closet I can find), Glenfiddich Solera 15, or the more pricey abelour a'bunadh or the Glendronach 15 (I heard that one was good, haven't tried it yet)
