This is my all time favorite scotch, and I have been enjoying it since it was first released. It takes the smoothness and complexity of the 12 year doublewood and let it mingle in rum casks, imparting a hint of vanilla to the nose and opening tasting notes, before sending you down a smoky scotch journey.

Gateway Scotch!!

I was first exposed to this whiskey almost ten years ago when doing a tasting for new products at liquor store chain I was working with. At the time I was somewhat of a tequila aficionado yielding only to the finest bottles south of the border. This bottle however was not like the other scotches I'd had up to that point. After indulging my nose for a while I took my taste. My tongue was immediately in a blissful heaven if flavors ranging from sweet vanilla to citrus to spice. An absolute masterful marriage of flavors leaving nothing to be desired. This was my gateway scotch into scotch whiskey and I could not have dreamed it any better! To date I've indulged my palate with many many bottles of this variant. I've expanded my Balvenie collection well beyond the 14yr Caribbean Cask since first tasting this variant. While this bottle remains my favorite I have to say that the entire family of scotch whiskeys from Balvenie I've tried have indeed lived up to this bottle as well. What an absolute pleasure every glass is that I get to enjoy!
