Perfect tequila for an old fashioned...really!

I purchased this product as part of an incentivized campaign. The beautiful, light golden color of this tequila makes it look more sophisticated. It has a very overpowering, rich scent more like that of a well-aged rum or whiskey, smelling strongly of oak mixed with tobacco, honey-like sweetness (agave), a light smokiness, leather, and hints of black pepper. I expected those flavors to be quite strong based on the intensity of the fragrance, but when I took a sip the taste was muted, flat, and had almost nothing in common with what I had been smelling. It is quite smooth and enjoyable to sip, despite finishing with the typical (although slightly less than normal) burn of a tequila. At first I was disappointed because I really wanted to taste the flavors I was smelling. However, where this tequila really shines is when it is used in place of rum or whiskey in drinks typically reserved for those spirits. My favorite drink is an old fashioned and this may be my new favorite spirit for that purpose. All of the flavors that seemed to hide when I sipped it straight came out strong in the old fashioned and it added a smoothness and depth to my cocktail that puts high-end whiskey to shame. The agave really brought the orange and lemon oils in my Proof syrup mix forward. In the drink the burn was almost completely obscured, resulting in the smoothest old fashioned I have ever had. The addition of maraschino cherries made the tobacco flavors stand out even more. I thought the idea of tequila in an old fashioned was crazy, but this was a wonderful surprise!

Fantastic for margaritas

A smooth tequila that works really well in margaritas which is perfect for summer, but just as good as a shot. I'm excited to try more cocktails with this!
