Tastes like dirt

This was recommended to me, although I am more of a Scottish Whisky guy. I enjoy Bourbon with a splash of cold water. I couldn't quite believe the first sip so I took another. It tasted of mildew. At first I thought that the filter on my fridge had gone bad but even with fresh mineral water it still tasted bad. Could something have gone wrong in the process? This stuff is BAD.

This was a birthday gift from my sister.

This was the first time I had tried this particular bourbon. It is a very smooth bourbon whiskey with a distinct, smoky flavor. I was currently sipping it on the rocks. I like it, and I will buy another when this bottle is emptied (perish the thought, lol).
