I would not be shy about serving to my more refined friends

Color – Warm honey gold in the glass, deep fall autumn in the bottle (which incidentally, appears to be the same or essentially similar as the BIB, Distiller's Cut and Double Oak bottles.) Nose – The aroma is surprisingly shy; you really have to coax it up, which is unusual for a 108 proof bourbon. Legs – I mean, who really cares?....but more sheets than legs. First Taste – Welcoming notes of pecan coffee cake, dried dates, all served on a bed of smoothness but deeply infused with ethanol and the caramelized wood sugars of the barrel it aged in.. Following taste – warming mix of sweet dried fruit and harvest spices. Finish – middling to brief, but pleasant with the ever present ethanol Alternating sipping with cool water dilutes some of the flavor notes, except for the cinnamon-like echo of the oak tannins from the aging barrel. Very pleasant, somewhat bold in taste, but still within the realm of approachable and quite smooth. Tonight, The Suburban Whiskeyist is pairing miniature Heath Bars with the Jim Beam Single Barrel. The JBSB is in no way diminished, or rendered sour in the contrast with the chocolates, something which has happened in other whiskies. I would not be shy about serving to my more refined whiskey-drinking friends, but it may be too bold for novices to sip straight. I have a feeling that JBSB would make an excellent mixer, or for those who (like Julian Van Winkle) prefer their bourbon with ice and a twist of orange.
