hudson ny straight rye whiskey - short stack

Bold and straightforward like a New Yorker

I was excited to try this since it was locally made. I noticed that this was slightly higher in alcohol content than other whiskey/bourbon/ryes (46% vs 45%) but it was smoother than expected so it was not an issue. Oak and rye were dominant when consumed neat. A bit of vanilla and maple were at the tail end of the sip. It had some thick legs that really clung to the side of the glass. Adding an ice cube brought out the vanilla flavors. Maple was dominating when using it in an old fashioned cocktail. I'll have to try this in two of the cocktails that were suggested on Hudson whiskey's website. I was surprised that each flavor was quite straightforward in each preparation. Only complaint would be that there was more spillage with this bottle than with other whiskey bottles when pouring. I'd probably try the other varieties made by Hudson in the future.

First impressions: definitely packs a punch but I still got that nice smooth maple taste. I will definitely buy from this brand again.
