Inspired by the deeply rooted tradition of creating special mezcal in celebration of the holiday Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), Del Maguey Vida de Muertos is the latest offering in the Del Maguey mezcal collection. Made by the Cruz Nolasco family in the village of San Luis del Río, Oaxaca, the twice-distilled mezcal is crafted using artisanal methods passed down through generations. In Latin American countries and Mexico, Dia de los Muertos mezcal is traditionally meant to be enjoyed by family and friends. Vida de Muertos honors the spirit’s meaningful role in the indigenous, joyful celebration of the human experience that occurs every Nov. 1st and 2nd.
Discover Vida de Muertos
Handcrafted using mature Espadín agave, Vida de Muertos has an aromatic nose of tropical fruit with hints of warming spice, a creamy texture with floral notes, green herbs, and poblano peppers, and a long complex finish. It’s ideal for those seeking the complexity found throughout Del Maguey’s mezcal expressions, while still priced for cocktail creation. Vida de Muertos is as delicious sipped and savored neat in a copita (the traditional, tulip-shaped glass) as it is in a flavorful mixed drink.
How does Vida de Muertos compare with the classic Vida mezcal? While both are twice-distilled in single villages by palenqueros (makers) in Oaxaca, Mexico, Vida de Muertos is made using a limited center cut of the distillate. The result is a 45% ABV and an elegant, artisanal flavor. Meanwhile, Vida is distilled to be more widely available; its 42% ABV is favored by bartenders around the world to create drinks like the Mezcal Mule.
